Tamron 24-70mm VC G1

Are you looking for a good and cheaper alternative for the Canon 24-70 USM II?
That’s what I was doing, when I stumbled across this lens.

Builda quality

Yes, it’s plastic, but this beast of a lens is extremely solid and heavy.
When I compare it to my Sigma 17-50, there is a huge difference.

Auto focus

AF is great. It’s on point. Small flaw is, when you use the manual focus while AF is engaged, it switches to MF for a short time before returning to AF.
If it’s too dark, the AF wont stop turning back and forth. You can slightly adjust the MF and that behavior stops and the AF works again in low light.

Sharpness

Center ist very sharp at any focal length.
the edges are always a bit soft. When you stop down, they get a lot sharper.

Pricing

I got my lens for 300$ 2nd hand. It has no flaws and works perfectly.
By comparison, the Canon 24-70 UHS I is still a bit more expensive than that. And that’s an Lens from 2002.

Tamron vs Canon

In comparison, there are two cons and two pros.
– The AF of the Tamron is a little bit slower than the one of the Canon lens
– In the edges, the Tamron is not quite as sharp. It’s not bad, but there’s a small difference
+ PRICE!! I payed 300$ for the Tamron. The Canon would have cost me more than 800$
+ The Tamron Lens is stabilized and forks flawlessly with the IBIS of the R7
